ABA members receive bimonthly issues of our award-winning magazine, Birding. The magazine features articles which cover such important topics as field identification, North American and foreign birdfinding, bird conservation, and birder education. Reviews of books, media, and equipment also help our members keep up with birding trends. The 38-year-old magazine has evolved from an eight-page mimeographed newsletter to an award-winning, full-color magazine. Birding is the ideal place to measure the changing North American birding scene.
Birding's editor, Ted Floyd, plans each issue far in advance with the magazine staff. The articles must have a good geographic and skill-level mix. Broad coverage of bird ID, birdfinding opportunities, book and media reviews, tools testing, bird conservation, and similar topics are pursued.
Birding Editor Ted Floyd, Associate Editor Noah K. Strycker, and Photo Editor Brian E. Small are assisted by a highly skilled team of Department Editors: Bird Books Eric Salzman, Dimensions Sheryl DeVore, News and Notes Paul Hess, Photo Quiz Cameron Cox, Sightings Amy Davis, Sources Rick Wright, Tools of the Trade Derek Lovitch, and Traditions Paul J. Baicich.
Birding magazine also benefits from the input of Editorial Consultants Jon L. Dunn, David A. Sibley, and David S. Wilcove, as well Technical Reviewers James J. Dinsmore, Donna Dittmann, Bill Pranty, Michael Retter and Macklin Smith.
Anyone interested in contributing material to Birding should contact the editor. All prospective contributors should carefully review the brief "Instructions to Contributors", published in the Letters to the Editor section of each issue of Birding.
The layout and design for the magazine is done by our Graphic Designers Ed Rother and Jim Harris.
