James P. Smith is a professional bird tour leader with the UK based company Birdfinders, and now lives in Keene, New Hampshire with his wife Susannah Lerman. Originally from Sheffield, England, James has birded extensively throughout Europe and the Near East with a particular focus on Israel and is currently a member of the Israel Rarities and Distribution Committee. He has been involved with numerous publications as an author, illustrator and photographer. His primary interests are identification and the observation/counting of migration. James is most at home in desert environments where he has carried out a number of distribution surveys.
Recently, James has turned his attention to North America where he leads a number of birding tours each year and has developed a higher level of interest in the geographical variation and identification of North American birds.
James will receive a Minox 8 x 32 BA binocular, donated by Leica Sport Optics, for submitting correct answers for all six quizzes posted between April 2004 and September 2004.
